The New Definition of Luxury: What We Saw at This Year’s Parade of Homes

One of the things we loved most about this year’s Parade of Homes was seeing just how far luxury home amenities have come. We think it’s fair to say things have gone way over the top, and it was a lot of fun to see. We’re not talking about a beautiful kitchen or a gorgeous primary suite anymore. Those have almost become the baseline.

In one home, there was an elaborate spa room complete with a sauna, massage chairs, a huge whirlpool, and even its own bar area for smoothies. Imagine having a spa day any day of the week without ever leaving your house. And the lower levels have come a long way from the old bar and big TV in the basement. We walked through hidden speakeasies, basketball courts, golf simulators, and even a bowling alley.

It got us thinking. We’re really seeing a whole new definition of luxury. It used to be about having the biggest kitchen, the fanciest finishes, or the largest primary suite. Now, luxury is just as much about how your home makes you feel and how you spend your time there.

Want to relax? You have your own spa. Want to entertain? How about a speakeasy. Want to stay active? You could have a basketball court, a golf simulator, or even a bowling alley.

Honestly, after seeing some of these homes, we have to ask: what would your dream home have if money were no object? When you’re designing or building a new home, it’s worth thinking about the experiences you want, not just the finishes. Maybe it’s a space to entertain friends, a place to relax and recharge, or something completely unique that reflects the way your family enjoys spending time together.

Because today’s luxury home can really be more than just a place to live. It can be your own private resort, a place to take a vacation without ever leaving home.
