8 New Construction Trends We Spotted at the 2026 Parade of Homes

If you haven’t been to the Parade of Homes yet, you still have time — it runs through Labor Day, and we highly recommend going even if you’re not planning to build a home. It’s one of the best ways to see what’s trending in new construction right now. We toured several homes, and here are the things that really caught our eye.

1. Wallpaper is definitely back. We’re seeing it used in some really creative ways, from dramatic powder rooms to entire rooms. It adds personality and makes a space feel much more finished than paint alone.

2. Black is making a big statement. Black woodwork, black fireplaces, and black accents are being used to create a dramatic, sophisticated look. Used well, it gives a room real depth and character.

3. The pantry has become a destination. One of our favorite trends was the large walk-in pantry — and we’ll admit it, the pantry envy is real. These aren’t just for storing cereal. Some have their own appliances, extra counter space, and room to actually prep meals. It’s almost a second kitchen.

4. Outdoor living is still huge. Outdoor spaces are being designed as a true extension of the home, with comfortable seating, cooking areas, and lots of room for entertaining.

5. The “fun factor” is real. Today’s homes aren’t stopping at the traditional basement with a pool table and a TV. We saw a basketball court, a bowling lane, golf simulators, impressive theater rooms, and one home even had a hidden speakeasy.

6. Wellness is getting its own space. Home saunas and gyms equipped with water stations are showing up more and more, giving wellness a dedicated place in the home.

7. Closets are getting dramatic. Some were so large they included a washer and dryer right inside — a small luxury that makes a lot of practical sense.

8. Work-from-home spaces are still important. Even in homes with enormous square footage, homeowners are looking for a dedicated office or at least a well-designed spot to work.

So if you have some time between now and Labor Day, we encourage you to go to the Parade of Homes. You don’t have to be building a home to enjoy it. Go see what’s new, get some ideas, and maybe discover a few things you didn’t even know you wanted.

And if those ideas turn into a plan to build or make a move, we’d love to help. Just reach out anytime.
